Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
All Yukon children under 5 can register to receive a free, brand-new, age-appropriate book each month. Dolly Parton's North America-wide program is available to Yukoners thanks to a partnership with the Yukon Literacy Coalition -- with support from the Rendezvous Rotary Club of Whitehorse, the Yukon Government and many generous private sponsors.
It's called the Yukon Imagination Library program and its been mailing out great books every month to children across the Yukon since 2007. This incredible program offers all families a chance to build a library of their own.

Why did Dolly do it?
In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort to benefit the children of her home county in east Tennessee. Dolly wanted to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families. She wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Moreover, she could ensure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.
She decided to mail a brand new, age appropriate book each month to every child under 5 in Sevier County, so that every child could experience the joy of finding their very own book in their mail box. The program has since spread to regions around North America. |
